AN AFTERNOON downpour could not put out the fiery spectacle at the Marina Barrage on Friday night that kicked off the month-long Singapore Arts Festival.

Some 5,000 people turned up to watch the free show, Helios II, by French group La Compagnie Malabar.

Aerial performers dangled from the mouth of a 9m tall stick insect in an exhilarating display of acrobatics. The 24m long creature roamed through the crowd, allowing people to get close to it.

The hour-long show ended with a glittering shower of fireworks.

Curtains rise on the annual festival's first ticketed show on Tuesday (May 19) - Grupo de Rua from Brazil, a hip hop group, is set to perform. Over 65 per cent of tickets for the festival have been snapped up, with five productions sold out.

Looks like the firework is one whole big thing to catch~ Sure to be there to watch the Helios II!
Ciao, but see you again if you're going down on later!
